About NASCAR Nationwide

Stock car racing has been around for the better part of last century. It has grown tremendously in popularity in the form of NASCAR in recent years, so much so that only professional football has more viewership than NASCAR in USA. A stock car is a modified standard car which has been upgraded with bigger engines, specialized suspensions, brakes and safety equipment to make it faster. Typically it can go beyond 200 mph. Further modifications and additions are added to make it safer for the driver in case of a crash. Although the race started in US and mostly US made car were a staple, recently car makers from other countries have been a part of it since the mid 2000's.

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing was founded in 1948 by Bill France Sr. whose vision for stock car racing has lifted this racing sport to new heights. Today, most fortune 500 companies like to sponsor this exciting racing event which is watched by hundreds of thousands of fans in live events and by millions on television in domestic as well as international market.

The headquarters for NASCAR are situated in Daytona Beach, Florida, where the very first races took place. According to the official website, NASCAR now sanctions more than 1200 races taking place in over 30 cities throughout USA, Canada and Mexico, and taking place on 100 different racing tracks. Charlotte Motor Speedway is one such track where different NASCAR races are held. Situated in North Carolina, this 1.5 oval holds opened in 1960 and where 140,000 spectators can come and enjoy their favorite NASCAR race, whether it is Coca Cola 600 or Sprint All Star Race.

NASCAR consists of three national races:
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
NASCAR Nationwide Series
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series

NASCAR National Touring events take place across USA and Canada, beginning in February in Daytona International Speedway and ending in November at Homestead Miami Speedway. The races take place in a variety of tracks which include short tracks (oval less than 1 mile in length), Intermediate (oval less than 2 mile in length), Superspeedway (more than 2 mile in length), and Road Course (circuit comprised of left and right hand turns in contrast with an oval which allows only left hand turns.)

The popularity of this car racing has spawned some famous drivers, among them Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Darrell Waltrip and of course Dale Earnhardt. Recently women have started adding their name among the drivers of NASCAR, and the name of Danica Patrick stands out. The drivers from other races like Indycar and Formula1 are also routinely crossing over to take part in these very popular car races.

Daytona 500: In this event 43 of the best stock car drivers in the world race each other in Daytona, Florida. This main event race is the NASCAR's biggest and richest and takes place on the 500 mile Daytona International Speedway. This championship race is held at the beginning of the year, generally the third week of February, rather than at the end of the season.

Are you are looking forward to attending Daytona 500 live? Or maybe you would want to be a part of live spectators in one the other NASCAR races.
