This league is a relative new comer to the family of Major League Sports, being formed in 1946. Out of its 30 teams, 29 are located in USA and one in Canada, that being Toronto Raptors. The very first year a basketball match was arranged between now defunct Toronto Huskies and New York Knickerbockers. Knickerbockers or Knicks, along with Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, L.A. The league expanded during the 70's almost doubling its member teams by adding nine more members. Later additions were made in 1980's and 1990&39#;s bringing the total to current 30 teams. These teams are divided into Eastern and Western Conference with each of these conferences further having three divisions. NBA season starts in late October and is preceded by training camps and exhibition games. Typically each team plays 82 games, both home and away. The regular season comes to an end around mid April and the playoffs start with the best eight teams in the conference competing with each other. The winning team is handed over the Larry O'Brian Trophy.
